Gustav and Hulda Weiss left Osiek, Russland (Russia at the time) in 1906, departing on the S.S. Graf Waldersee of the Hamburg America line.
According to the ship’s manifest, Gustav (born about 1870) and Hulda (born about 1876) were accompanied by their five children: Grete (1898), Olga (1900), Edward (1902), Emilie (1903), and Gustav (1905). The ship followed the Cuxhaven; Boulogne-sur-Mer; Plymouth; New York route. It seems that at the time, it took about a week to ten days to make the passage.
The family traveled to New York in steerage. This photo shows what that looked like. The story of one person around 1906 might have represented the experience of our family as well.
I am going to investigate Ellis Island records also to see if I can find family records there also.
